World Naked Gardening Day (W.N.G.D.) began its global expansion in 2005. It was not intended to be controlled by any particular person or organisation, but rather to be a movement in which anyone could participate.
Every year on the first Saturday of May, World Naked Gardening Day is observed, and this year, it falls on May 6. Without clothing or footwear, gardeners from all over the globe gather to tend to their plants and flowers. This allows them to identify with the origins of gardening and our natural connection to Mother Nature.
World Naked Gardening Day (W.N.G.D.) began its global expansion in 2005. It was not intended to be controlled by any particular person or organisation, but rather to be a movement in which anyone could participate. Mark Storey, the editor of the magazine “Nude & Natural,” and Jacob Gabriel, a permaculturist, were the movement’s founders. The two began W.N.G.D. as a project affiliated with Body Freedom Collaborative, a movement that advocated acts of authority defiance in an effort to disseminate ideas of freedom and independence.
The official date for the worldwide event is the first Saturday of May; however, due to climate differences in various regions, some countries, such as Canada in June and New Zealand in October, observe their own Naked Gardening Day. The creators intended for the event to be lighthearted and entertaining, spreading the word about the advantages of gardening and body acceptance.
In addition, it has been said that naked gardening is a healthy activity because it allows the body to assimilate vitamin D and allows for light and enjoyable exercise. The movement’s founders encourage people to commemorate it in public, but the majority of gardeners prefer to do so in the privacy and safety of their own homes. The cities of Orlando, Austin, and Seattle are, according to an article, among the best locations to celebrate.
