Sellmer had successfully launched a commercial Advent calendar enterprise and commenced large-scale calendar production by 1946. In the 1950s, his calendars were exported to the United States. Cadbury did not enter the chocolate Advent calendar market until 1971, when it introduced its own calendar in the United Kingdom. The first chocolate Advent calendar was introduced in 1958. Between 1972 and 1986, Cadbury produced advent calendars sporadically; it wasn’t until 1993 that they became a staple.
