National Be Nice to Bugs Day 2023: Date, History, Facts, Activities

This holiday was created by Kiana Monson in 2021 to remind people to reconsider murdering bugs and insects. Instead of swatting them out of terror, she encourages us to respect and acknowledge their existence.

National Be Kind to Insects Day occurs on July 14. The holiday was created to raise awareness of the significance of insects to our ecosystem and to discourage their slaughter. Numerous individuals have the habit of squashing insects, whether they are annoying them or not. This must cease in order to preserve our natural environment, and although spiders may appear frightening, they are harmless if they have not bitten you. If you leave insects alone, they will only attack if they feel threatened. Therefore, the next time you hear a wasp buzzing in your room, simply open a window and exit the room until it flies away.

The background of National Be Nice to Bugs Day

This holiday was created by Kiana Monson in 2021 to remind people to reconsider murdering bugs and insects. Instead of swatting them out of terror, she encourages us to respect and acknowledge their existence. They are harmless creatures who go about their lives without incident unless provoked.

Numerous entomologists and insect collectors research and interact with insects without being harmed. According to historical records, the Chinese began accumulating silkworms as early as 3000 B.C. The honeybee is one of the most commonly domesticated insects, and the Chinese collected them between 3,500 and 4,000 years ago. Therefore, were they not afraid of being attacked by bees? The challenge resides in comprehending insect behaviour. Beekeepers are extremely meticulous when handling the insects, taking care not to crush them or release their alarm pheromones. Obviously, this requires weeks and months of practise, but once you learn how to read bees, you will be able to manage them. The same holds true for other insects.

However, we are not asking you to pet a tarantula to demonstrate your affection for insects. You need only refrain from harming them. In addition to doing your part, you can contribute by disseminating the word. Children in particular have a tendency to unwittingly kill insects, and a short lesson on being kind to insects can prevent them from causing more harm in the future.
