On September 25, National Comic Book Day flies into a community near you. The genre has expanded to include graphic novels and full-length books, and has inspired innumerable film adaptations. It didn’t take long for authors to adapt the comic style to all forms of storytelling, despite the fact that initially comics were primarily humorous.

The introduction of Superman by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1938 ushered in the Golden Age of Comics and made comic books a significant industry. This led to the creation of the superhero archetype. Michael A. Amundson, a historian, notes that appealing comic book characters helped to allay the fears of young readers regarding nuclear war and atomic power-related queries.
Typically, the history of the American comic book can be divided into four distinct periods. The Golden Age of Comics began in the 1930s and is regarded as the genre’s beginning. The Silver Age is considered to have begun with the Flash’s debut in 1956, which marked the first effective revival of the dormant superhero genre. This era persisted until the early 1970s, when Marvel Comics’ naturalistic superheroes such as the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man revolutionized the medium. The Bronze Age is less precisely defined, but it spans roughly from the very early 1970s to the late 1980s. This era sees the return of darker plot elements and more socially relevant narratives, such as racism.
The Modern Age of Comics spans the mid-1980s to the present. During the first fifteen years of this period, numerous comic book characters were redesigned, creators acquired prominence within the industry, independent comics flourished, and larger publishing houses became increasingly commercialized. Due to the prominence and artistic influence of titles such as Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen, this period is also referred to as the Dark Age of Comic Books.

Can’t attend the closest Comic-Con? No worries. Inviting your friends over in September to trade, display, discuss, or even reenact your beloved stories is encouraged. Also, remember to bring your costumes.
If you’ve been reading comics your entire existence, you may not recognize how familiar you are with their structure. Spend some time constructing a plot, creating characters, and letting your imagination run rampant. If you have an aptitude for illustration, go for it, or enlist the assistance of a companion who has already mastered that skill. Who knows, perhaps you are hiding the next Stan Lee, just waiting to be released.
The internet has entirely transformed how comics are acquired by collectors. Through message boards such as Reddit, it is now simpler than ever to locate a unicorn. Looking for a Shadow limited edition in pristine condition? It is out there waiting for you; all you need to do is locate it.
