This enclosed workspace is partitioned to provide office employees with individual and private spaces, allowing them to work more effectively in peace.

The background of National Cubicle Day

Although the primary reason for celebrating National Cubicle Day is to recognise Robert Propst’s 1967 invention of the cubicle, the earliest known observance of the day occurred in 2015. This holiday was not as popular or pleasant in 2015 as it has been in previous years. This is because more people are now participating and each year new, exciting performances are created to celebrate the day. For instance, the excellent and enlightening Feng Shui arrangement of the partitioned workplaces adds some excitement to the celebration. Currently, hundreds of employees are competing to design the finest Feng Shui cubicle layout, especially on April 28.

Herman Miller designed the cubicle in 1967, based on a design by Robert Propst, to create an office environment that permits continual adjustment to meet the changing needs of workers. It was initially released as “Action Office II” (AO-2). It was also designed to resolve the problems posed by the ‘Action Workplace I’ office environment. Due to its adaptability, AO-2 was referred to as “Action Office” in 1978, signifying that it had become the new standard. By 2005, sales of this popular office setting had reached a staggering five billion dollars! Is it any surprise that a day has been designated to celebrate this marvel?

Since its inception, National Cubicle Day has witnessed a significant transformation, as previously mentioned. Every April 28, employees decorate their cubicles to the best of their abilities, with some claiming their designs are superior. There is no doubt that other exciting activities will emerge in the coming years, regardless of the current activity and enjoyment of employees.
