National Draw A Dinosaur Day 2023: Date, History and Significance

Over the years, children and adults have shared online their interpretations and images of dinosaurs.

National Draw a Dinosaur Day, observed on January 30, honours the mystery and enchantment surrounding these majestic animals who once roamed the earth. On this day, children and adults paint and draw all varieties of dinosaurs – cute, scary, happy, evil, etc. — while having fun.

HISTORY OF NATIONAL DRAW A DINOSAUR DAY

In 2007, on a seemingly ordinary day, a student called Todd Page was attending an anthropology class. To alleviate his ennui, he took pen to paper and, seemingly out of thin air, created a dinosaur. It was enjoyable and invigorating to him. All of his students enjoyed drawing dinosaurs once he encouraged them to do so. He wanted to create a day in which people could depict the most fantastical creatures that have ever inhabited our world.

Todd Page designated January 30 as National Draw a Dinosaur Day and spread the word via social media. Since then, people across the United States and Canada draw dinosaurs and post them on social media on this day.

It is not a secret that children enjoy dinosaurs. Ask any child to do anything related to dinosaurs, and they will be ecstatic! Drawing is a productive way to captivate children. Simply create an image of a dinosaur and upload it on various social media networks to participate in the festivities. The photograph is not necessary, but having fun while taking it is! The goal is to encourage individuals, particularly children, to freely express their creativity on paper or canvas.

Over the years, children and adults have shared online their interpretations and images of dinosaurs.

Therefore, on January 30, take out your pencils, wax crayons, colour pens, paintbrushes, or even your stylus and create your own version of the most mysterious creature that has ever walked the Earth.

  • The Indominus Rex’s bony and pointed characteristics need a bit more effort, which engages and inspires children who enjoy sketching freehand.
  • Triceratops: This enormous herbivore is included in every bedtime story for young children, and they like bringing their fantasies to life.
  • This water dinosaur, Mosasaurus, provides an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy experimenting with colour to create works with turquoise, blue, and green colours.
  • Velociraptor is ideal for adults who value symmetry when drawing freehand.
