Congress made National Family Literacy Day official with Joint Resolution 413 that same year. Since then, people all over the United States have been celebrating the day with events and activities that show how important reading programs are.
The event is held every year on November 1, but there are connected events all through the month. It was first held in 1994. Schools, libraries, and reading groups all join in the fun by holding events like book drives, competitions for best books, and even visits from famous people.
