In 2020, Donald Adams of Finding Fathers, Inc. established National Fatherless Children's Day. The first annual commemoration began in 2021.
National Fatherless Children’s Day is observed annually on the fourth Sunday of June, which falls on June 25 this year. It recognises the effects of paternal absence on children and families. It also aims to raise awareness of the negative effects of fatherlessness on children and communities around the globe. In November of 2020, Donald Adams of Finding Fathers, Inc. established the day. National Day Archives officially recognised the first National Fatherless Children’s Day, which occurred on June 27, 2021.
In 2020, Donald Adams of Finding Fathers, Inc. established National Fatherless Children’s Day. The first annual commemoration began in 2021. It has been discovered that parental divorce affects a child’s development and behaviour. Early parental divorce is associated with children’s internalising and externalising behaviours, while divorce later in childhood or adolescence is associated with lower academic achievement.
Although parental divorce and separation, as well as parental alienation, are the most prevalent causes of father absence, other factors, such as family poverty and developmental problems, have also been linked to father absence, with a variety of theoretical approaches explaining the implications. Fathers have always been considered a source of stability and support for their children’s development, regardless of how experts define fatherhood. The absence of a father can have a variety of behavioural impacts on a child. Typically, a father’s absence after a divorce leads to a decrease in household income, inadequate parenting, and psychological distress.
Early parental separation negatively impacts the development and behaviour of children throughout childhood. Along with poverty and parental psychological distress, a British study found that father absence at a given age predicted a high risk for the child to score above the cutoff score for total difficulties two years later. Among the anticipated difficulties were borderline personality disorder, excessive hyperactivity, and aberrant emotional problems.
