Gavin is a Scottish name for boys that means “God send” or “white hawk.” It is a condensed form of the names Gwalchgwyn and Gawain. Gavinus was executed by decree of Governor Barbarus in the city of Porto Torres. Another Saint Gavinus was a missionary cleric from the nearby town of Sardinia who was martyred in 130 A.D. during the Christian persecutions during the reign of Hadrian.

Gavin DeGraw, an American singer-songwriter whose 2003 debut album “Chariot” featured the hit single “I Don’t Want To Be,” is one of the most prominent Gavins. “One Tree Hill,” a popular early-2000s television programme about basketball, family ties, and high school romance, adopted DeGraw’s song as its theme. “Chariot” was certified platinum in the United States and Denmark and peaked at number 56 on the U.S. Billboard 200.
