Golden Retrievers are the perfect best pals for any dog lover because of their lively nature, intellect, and peaceful disposition. They also make excellent assistance animals for those with disabilities, such as hearing dogs for the deaf and seeing-eye dogs for the blind. The National Golden Retriever Day History

Although the holiday didn’t exist until 2012, Golden Retrievers have a rich and fascinating past that dates back to the mid-19th century in Scotland. A brief look back at the history of this cherished dog.

The breed became necessary since the popular hunting dogs of the time were not up to the task of locating and rescuing downed game on land or in the water. By the early 1800s, firearms had advanced to the point where Scottish hunters could shoot over marshy swamps at considerably greater distances, and they discovered that their dogs were either killing or seriously injuring their prized birds. They bred their best water spaniels with retrievers because they required a dog with a soft mouth and exceptional fetching skills, and presto! The Golden Retriever breed saw its birth.

These days, golden retrievers are much more than just animals used to pick up fallen birds. Because of their exceptional sniffing skills, they not only make excellent handicap support dogs but also specialize in detection, search, and rescue missions. They are ideal for busy homes with kids because of their sensitivity and tolerance.

When Kristen Shroyer, a lady, learned there was no day designated as a celebration of these pets, she developed National Golden Retriever Day. She designated March 3 as her late father’s birthday. Quincy tragically passed away from cancer when he was just 7 years old.

You may be familiar with the Goldens from their well-known appearances in contemporary films such as Napoleon, Homeward Bound, and Air Bud. In addition, in 2019 a Golden Retriever by the name of Kira went viral after being seen on camera rescuing two dogs that were stuck in ice, fetching them, and gathering them up for her owner. They are a unique breed!

Golden Retrievers were designed to fetch, or retrieve. Thus, take your dog to the closest park and reward them with their preferred game. You will both get a ton of workouts and enjoy a terrific time!

This breed loves the water and excels at it as well! Take your dog for a swim if your home is warm enough or if there is an indoor pool close by that allows dogs. They’ll also look adorable paddling around like dogs.
