Regardless of the circumstances, today is her day. However, it is not only Grandma’s Day. On July 23, we observe National Beautiful Grandma Day. Today is the day to tell Grandma how beautiful she truly is. You must acknowledge that for an eightieth-year-old, she looks quite good. We’re certain that all the grandfathers are eager to woo her.

Despite the aches and pains of old age, the majority of grandmothers have positive dispositions and incredible energy, which permeates our lives. The day seeks to honour women over the age of 50 and encourages them to defy societal norms and live a little.
We adore our grandmothers, but we typically view them in a stereotypically archaic manner. Grandmothers are expected to be serene and composed, to dress in an outmoded manner, and to spend their days baking and knitting. It is an archaic notion that women over the age of 50 should not dress up, wear vibrant colours, or go on dates. National Gorgeous Grandma Day aims to dispel this misconception and encourage individuals not to judge women over the age of 50 who are not yet ready to retire.
Alice Solomon graduated from Wellesley College at age 50 in 1984. She realised that society considered her and other women of her age to be senior citizens, regardless of whether they were in fact ‘grandmothers.’ She came up with the concept ‘Gorgeous Grandma’ in an effort to challenge this notion. Solomon decided to embrace the term ‘grandma’ but amplified it by adding the adjective ‘gorgeous’ to refer to women who were presumably ‘past their expiration date’ and therefore no longer relevant. Gorgeous Grandma is all about presenting an edgier image of elderly women and dispelling the stereotypes that confine them to a box.

When was the last time you took your grandmother out? Today is the day to lavish her with attention and treat her as she deserves. Spend this time with her shopping. Pamper her. Modernise her appearance and make her feel like the youthful fox she once was. (Well, in fact, it is. Did we mention our grandmas are stunning yet? (Grandma, if you are reading this, you are a sultry siren.)
FaceTime, texting, and phone communications should be abandoned. Do something extraordinary and meaningful that will make your stunning grandmother beam with joy. Purchase a blank card from a nearby convenience store and express your appreciation for her. Send flowers along with the card! Just as One Direction would say, “[Your grandmother] has no idea how beautiful she is, oh oh.” Your duty is to remind her. So go get em, panther!
