Every citizen of the United States, whether natural-born or naturalized, is obligated and responsible to defend our nation and the U.S. Constitution in the event that the need arises.
National Immigrants Day 2023: Annually on October 28, National Immigrants Day, the United States of America, which is commonly referred to as the “melting pot” of the world, provides an opportunity to pause and consider how distinctive that distinction is among the 195 sovereign nations of the world. We, the American people, take great pride in our extensive track record of embracing immigrants from diverse nations and appreciate their invaluable contributions that enrich the rich tapestry of traditions, customs, and cultures that is our nation.
America is the world’s greatest experiment in freedom and individual rights, and unlike any other nation, immigrants entirely founded and built it. Citizens by birth or by choice, Americans are bound by a shared constitution and flag, and are unified by the nation’s history as a land of opportunity and liberty.
It is simple to overlook the fact that, as an immigrant-driven nation, the United States is the culmination of each concept and aspiration that has ever set sail with an immigrant in search of fresh prospects. The majority of those aspirations and concepts passed through Ellis Island, the first federal immigration center in the United States.
The 42 constituent states that comprised the United States of America prior to 1890 governed immigration into the country. A record number of Europeans arrived in America by 1890 in an attempt to escape political instability, restrictive religious laws, and deteriorating economic conditions. As a result, the continent was inundated with immigrants. In order to alleviate the workload of individual states, the federal government assumed control of the immigrant arrival processing system.
Since its establishment as an immigrant station in New York Harbor in 1892, Ellis Island has been the principal entry point for the majority of immigrants into the United States since 1890. Additionally, immigrants entered the United States via Savannah, Miami, New Orleans, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, San Francisco, and Philadelphia. Due to the fact that New York was the most popular port of entry for the majority of ships arriving in America, Ellis Island was the busiest.
Over 12 million immigrants, carrying aspirations and ambitions for a better life for their families, passed through the Ellis Island immigration station between January 1, 1890, and November 1954, when it was finally shut down. The majority of those immigrants from Ellis Island had one aspiration in common: to attain American citizenship. As an incentive for sacrificial and loyal devotion to the United States and its Constitution, immigrants who elected to naturalize received the same rights and privileges as U.S. citizens, as well as the liberty to pursue “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
In addition to commemorating National Immigrants Day, we honor the perseverance, resourcefulness, and resilience that immigrants persistently contribute to the cultural melting pot that is the United States.

Despite being a melting pot of cultures, the United States of America shares more in common than can ever be divided. The early immigrants’ zeal to assimilate and conform – to become Americans, forcibly – left an indelible mark on the nation they contributed to forming. On National Immigrants Day, we are reminded that immigrants continue to influence our future with their significant contributions.
Liz Claiborne, YouTube, ATM financial machines, the Terminator, News Corporation, and Levi Strauss. These American brands and inventions were introduced to the world by immigrants who, upon reaching America, recognized the potential to introduce innovative concepts to the market. Demonstrating appreciation for the resourcefulness of America’s heterogeneous immigrant community would be a fitting way to honor their significant contributions to the nation’s global economic prowess.
In comparison to other countries, the United States of America’s uniqueness can be simple to overlook. National Immigrant Day provides an opportunity to pause and contemplate the countless modest beginnings that have occurred within our immigrant-dominated nation.
