National Kazoo Day, founded by Chaplin Willard Rahn in 1983, celebrates the joy of playing and listening to the kazoo. Activities include making a DIY kazoo, playing favorite songs, and doing kazoo karaoke. Kazoos bring nostalgia, celebrate fun, and make us feel like talented musicians. Visit the Kazoo Museum, enjoy kazoo karaoke, and enjoy the experience.

National Kazoo Day 2024: Prepare to play if it’s been since elementary school or if you’ve never played a Kazoo at all! After all, National Kazoo Day’s here. Chaplin Willard Rahn, a founding member of Joyful Noise Kazoo Band, started it all in 1983. The purpose of National Kazoo Day is to honor all the ways that people of all ages can find joy in playing or listening to the kazoo. Thus, enjoy the holiday on January 28 by either playing your kazoo or listening to one.
This distinctively American musical instrument was designed in 1840 and brought to the world as the “Down South Submarine” in 1852 during the Georgia State Fair by Alabama Vest and Thaddeus Von Clegg, the latter a German-American clockmaker. Nearly 60 years later the commercial production of this device started, and it began to enter the world created out of the dully shining silver of Tin.
Rather than having any particular keys or tuning devices, the music of the Kazoo is created by humming into the instrument and heralds back to earlier instruments based on this kind of vibration. Believe it or not, there is a strong history of instruments that function by altering the voice of the musician.
Your kids will enjoy this if you have some. It’s also inexpensive and simple. A cardboard tube, wax paper, rubber bands, and scissors are all you’ll need.
On National Kazoo Day make it a priority to get your mouth on a kazoo and hum your favorite melodies. Do you want to involve others? Bring kazoos to work so that colleagues can enjoy themselves while playing.
Give your pals some kazoos, a stage, and a microphone (along with a drink of wine, if you’d like), and enjoy an enjoyable evening together.
World Piano Day 2023: Date, History, Facts, Activities
This attraction in Beaufort, South Carolina, contains one of the biggest public collections of kazoos.
In their tune “Crazy Blues,” the Original Dixieland Jazz Band featured kazoos.
Rick Hubbard, a family entertainer and kazoo whiz, once transformed a 30,000-person crowd into a massive kazoo band!
On National Kazoo Day, we are reminded of the times when something so basic made us very happy.
Kazoos are simple, portable, and enjoyable to play. Even so, it’s possible that you haven’t used one since you were a young child.
Just hum a melody, and the kazoo will take care of the rest.
