What better way to recognise Animal Cruelty Prevention Month than to celebrate National Kids and Pets Day on April 26 each year? This day was created out of a need to raise awareness about choosing the right pet for children. It also celebrates the bond between pets and children and highlights safety guidelines regarding our pets and children.

The background of National Kids and Pets Day

Other than infants, animals demonstrate the purest expression of love. National Kids and Pets Day was created to raise awareness about the relationship between children and pets, as well as the significance of choosing the right companion for children at the right age.

Colleen Paige, a former emergency medical technician (EMT), discovered her vocation and passion for animals at a very young age. She became an animal behaviourist, interior designer, writer, photographer, and author after beginning her career as a dog trainer at the Los Angeles National Institute of Dog Training. She also contributes to “The New York Times,” “The Huffington Post,” “The Wall Street Journal,” “Total Health,” “People Pets,” and a multitude of other periodicals, publications, and columns. This mother is the inspiration and philanthropic force behind multiple pet-friendly days, such as National Kids and Pets Day, National Dog Day, National Cat Day, National Puppy Day, National Pet Day, National Wildlife Day, and many others.

National Kids and Pets Day was created by Colleen in an effort to strengthen the bond between children and animals, promote the safety of placing children and pets together, and bring attention to the plight of animals in shelters.
