National Kindergarten Day has arrived, so it’s time to break out the colouring books and flash cards!

On April 21st, the German educator Friedrich Frobel was born. In 1837, he established the first play and activity institute that came to be known as kindergarten. His birthday is April 21st. (The term “kindergarten” originates from the middle of the 19th century in German and literally translates to “children’s garden.”) But I’m sure you were already aware of that.

Frobel believes that younger children should follow their own interests and have the freedom to explore those interests. Kindergartens incorporate singing, dancing, and free-form creative play for this same reason.

Friedrich Frobel, who had established a play and exercise centre for young children, is credited with coming up with the term “kindergarten” in the year 1840.

In order to carry on Frobel’s teachings and traditions, supporters of Frobel formed a college of teacher education in London in 1982.

Every year, there are around 3.5 million new pupils who start kindergarten.

The majority of states mandate that school districts offer kindergarten in some manner, but only 18 of those states mandate that students actually attend.

In the majority of states, kindergarten begins at the age of five. Certain youngsters can enter kindergarten as early as age four and a half in the states of New York, New Jersey, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.

Because it was deemed to be so unconventional, Friedrich Frobel’s notion was suppressed by the Prussian government for a period of time. Despite this, the concept quickly caught on in Europe and the rest of the world.
