Mardi Gras refers to the festivities of the Carnival holiday. They begin on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany or Three Kings Day and culminate on Shrove Tuesday, the day preceding Ash Wednesday.
National Krewe of Tucks Day is observed annually on June 9 to honour the New Orleans Mardi Gras krewe Krewe of Tucks. The Krewe of Tucks prioritises enjoyment above all else. Despite the fact that the group has grown, they have maintained their sense of humour and “Animal House” reputation. Tucks is well-known for its irreverence and satirical displays, such as the King’s Throne, a gigantic toilet.
Mardi Gras refers to the festivities of the Carnival holiday. They begin on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany or Three Kings Day and culminate on Shrove Tuesday, the day preceding Ash Wednesday. The festival is celebrated in numerous locations around the globe, but the local customs differ from city to city. The New Orleans, Louisiana celebrations are among the most prominent ones.
In 1969, a group of Loyola University students applied for a parade permit and thus founded the Krewe of Tucks. The name Krewe of Tucks is derived from the now-defunct Uptown bar Friar Tuck’s, where two college students wished to start their own krewe after failing to become white flambeaux carriers. Originally, the flambeau was a carrier that served as a beacon for New Orleans parade-goers to better appreciate the nighttime festivities. Friar Tucks, where everything began, is no longer operating, but the parade continues.
The Tucks parade has expanded significantly over the years. It began as a nighttime procession of pickup vehicles. In 1983, the parade was moved to the daytime, and in 1986, it joined the traditional route from Uptown to Downtown. Even though the group has expanded, they have maintained their sense of humour and reputation as the Animal House. Tucks is well-known for its irreverence and satirical displays, such as the King’s Throne, a gigantic toilet. The past monarchs of the Krewe of Tucks include comedic actors such as John Candy and Eugene Levy.

Each year, the krewes select a unique motif for their parades, and some even keep the theme a secret until the parade begins.
“Throw Me Something, Mister” are the magic words used to receive all parade tosses.
As a consequence of a city ordinance prohibiting the commercialization of Mardi Gras, all expenses are borne by krewes and riders.
The law requires all float riders to wear masks or facial paint.
Purple represents justice, gold represents authority, and green represents faith.
