National Military Podcast Day is observed on October 5 for two reasons. The purpose is to honor the memories and experiences of ex-military men and women and to recognize their fortitude, valor, and survival. One of the driving forces behind the establishment of this day was the restorative power of speech. It seeks to assist veterans in sharing their experiences and initiating the healing process. Podcasting is the ideal medium for entertaining and educating Americans and listeners from around the world.

The background of National Military Podcast Day

Music and other audio aids, such as podcasts and audiobooks, assist us in processing our emotions, frustrations, and aspirations, according to scientific research. Veterans are not unique. They frequently use podcasting as a therapeutic outlet to cope with their military experiences. This should be celebrated because it is one of the most effective methods to treat PTS. When we discuss something, we develop, process, and cope with it. This special day was created to encourage all veterans to begin their own podcasts and simply communicate.

National Military Podcast Day was founded in 2021 as a therapeutic outlet by the team behind Broken Jarhead, L.L.C. and the podcast “Broken Jarhead: The Broken Podcast,” Shane Cunningham and his business associate Nick Nickerson, both army veterans. Typically, they will recite two fan-submitted topics and inject up to 15 minutes of impromptu humor to alleviate any tension or gloomy atmosphere caused by complex subject matter. The objective of Cunningham and Nickerson’s podcast is to promote debate, and they present an annual, free awards ceremony to commemorate National Military Podcast Day. Additionally, they wish to encourage both active-duty and veteran service members to continue to fight and never give up.

This day is intended to recognize military podcasters who use their platforms to advertise their businesses, share personal stories, or simply as a therapeutic outlet to release pent-up emotions. Operation Enduring Freedom, also known as the Global War on Terrorism, began in Afghanistan on October 6, 2001; therefore, the members of Broken Jarhead, L.L.C. would like to precede a day of remembrance with a day of festivity.
