The background of National New Friends Day

It appears that National New Friends Day evolved from a number of preexisting holidays that centered on friendship and companionship. Annual observances of Friendship Day and National Make a Friend Day occur on February 11 and August 1, respectively, while International Friendship Day occurs on July 30 or August 1. National New Friends Day, on the other hand, appears to have originated on the internet. While the exact date of first appearance is unknown, there are a number of associated days that possess intriguing origins. Continue reading.

Everything seems to have originated from a marketing initiative undertaken by Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards, in the 1920s with the intention of appealing to consumers. Unfortunately, the concept of a friendship day was never truly embraced by a skeptical public. During the 1920s, evolving artistic and cinematic movements influenced consumers, and the promotion of friendship was likely perceived as somewhat outlandish. This precipitated Friendship Day’s decline, which ultimately led to a lack of interest in the 1930s. By the 1940s, Friendship Day had virtually vanished. Nevertheless, in 1958, Paraguay established World Friendship Day. Everyone must have companions.

Then, an odd occurrence transpired. Friendship Day gained significant prominence and considerable attention in Asia. The advent of the internet, GIFS, and parodies has facilitated the formation of international and even transcontinental friendships despite the absence of physical separation. In 2011, the General Assembly of the United Nations joined the celebration by designating July 30 as International Friendship Day, an additional day of recognition. Additionally, it is observed on the initial Sunday of August.

National New Friends Day Activities

Deepen your understanding of an acquaintance

Efforts should be made to develop a closer relationship with anyone you have ever desired. Perhaps it’s a colleague you’ve always wished to get to know better or a person you frequently encounter at the local cafe. Commemorate New Friends Day with a colleague over a sandwich and a brief conversation.

Ensure that your existing connections are happy and healthy

Presently, now is an ideal time to assess the connections that are present in your life. Ensure that every friendship you maintain is beneficial to both of you. Do you maintain positive friendships with those who are closest to you? Are they reciprocating your actions? If you have any toxic companions in your life, now is the time to contemplate ending the friendship amicably or attempting to resolve the issues at hand. It is difficult, but it makes space for more fulfilling new friendships.

Attend a neighborhood meeting in your area

Local participation is one of the most effective methods for making new acquaintances. Participate in a community service organization or a meet-up centered on an interest that engrosses you. It may be intimidating to attend your first meeting, but doing so is the initial step toward creating new friends with individuals who share some of your interests. For a change, at a block party, new acquaintances might congregate on your front veranda.
