The background of National New Hampshire Day

During the American Revolution, New Hampshire was one of the thirteen colonies that rebelled against British colonialism. Sawmills, shipyards, and merchants’ depots played a significant role in New Hampshire’s economy and way of life. In the region, villages and municipal centres sprang up rapidly. There developed a class of labourers, mariners, and slaves as a result of the wealthy merchants’ investments in trade and land speculation.

The only battle waged in New Hampshire occurred on December 14, 1774, when Fort William and Mary was attacked. Two nights were spent fighting with gunpowder, small arms, and cannons. According to legend, the gunpowder was used at the Battle of Bunker Hill after being stored in the residences of several New Hampshire patriots until it was transported elsewhere for revolutionary purposes. During the raid, the British soldiers launched cannons and muskets at the revolutionaries. These were among the first shots discharged during the American Revolutionary period, but there were no casualties. On June 21, 1788, New Hampshire ratified the Constitution. Additionally, New Hampshire became the ninth state to enter the Union on this date.

New Hampshire is one of the six states that comprise the New England region. It is circumscribed to the north and northwest by Quebec and Canada, to the east by Maine and the Gulf of Maine, to the south by Massachusetts, and to the west by Vermont. New Hampshire is home to dense forests, towering mountains, and a coastline. It is the fifth-smallest territory in the United States.
