When emergencies and calamities occur in our lives, they leave us with insufficient time to plan, forcing us to make immediate decisions on the spot.
A rare occasion, National PrepareAthon Day is annually observed on April 30. It is all about promoting awareness of the significance of implementing precautionary measures in the event of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, hurricanes, and even pandemics. This grassroots campaign was initiated by President Barack Obama to raise awareness about emergency planning and preparedness among families, communities, and organisations worldwide. Additionally, the initiative provides tools and resources to help you be better prepared for emergencies. Through the use of these tools, you and your loved ones can recover from the severe repercussions of such disasters more easily.
When emergencies and calamities occur in our lives, they leave us with insufficient time to plan, forcing us to make immediate decisions on the spot. As a result of figuring things out as we go, we are forced to cope with difficult and sometimes irreversible side effects. However, despite the fact that it is impossible to be entirely prepared, it is always easier to navigate situations when you have a plan in place as opposed to throwing caution to the wind. This is the purpose of this holiday — to remind us that crises occur abruptly and often without warning, and that if you find yourself in the midst of an earthquake, flood, hurricane, or even a pandemic, being prepared will be the calm in the storm.
Small, actionable actions can be taken to avoid being surprised by unanticipated and unfortunate circumstances. Possessing an emergency kit and practising emergency exercises and protocols give you an advantage in the event of an emergency, while establishing insurance and securing your documents and valuables provide a softer landing afterward. An emergency kit is one of the easiest methods to prepare for the future and is typically the initial step. Think of it as a more comprehensive emergency first aid kit. Typically, an emergency kit should contain enough food and water to last at least 72 hours. This could include non-perishable food and refreshments, bottled water, a torch, batteries, a radio and a first-aid kit.
National PrepareAthon! Day is an initiative created by President Barack Obama to raise worldwide awareness of the importance of emergency preparedness. His National Preparedness Initiative included both this holiday and National Preparedness Month.
