National Accounts IRS Tax Fraud Day is annually observed on April 10th. Attorney Joel Hesch, who served as a Whistleblower Reward Officer for the Department of Justice for sixteen years, founded this day. This day was created to bring attention to the IRS Whistleblower Incentive Program and similar rewards. Later, Mr. Hesch established an independent law firm to assist whistleblowers in claiming rewards under various government reward programs, such as the Internal Revenue Service Tax Fraud Reward Programs.

The background of National Report IRS Tax Fraud Day

The Revenue Act of 1862 was passed by Congress to generate funds for the American Civil War and to establish the Bureau of Internal Revenue. The Sixteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified in 1913, allowing Congress to impose a tax on income regardless of its source. Shortly thereafter, the Bureau of Internal Revenue was established. Since its inception in 1953, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has undergone numerous modifications and reforms.

For the federal government, the I.R.S. is responsible for collecting the majority of revenue. It processed more than 261 million tax returns and collected more than $4,100,000,000 in aggregate taxes in 2021. In 1867, the I.R.S. established a reward programme to compensate those who reported tax fraud. The former tax incentive programme was surprisingly underutilised.

The I.R.S. introduced the Tax Whistleblower Rewards Program in December 2006, which established minimum compensation amounts and permitted whistleblowers to employ an attorney to claim their award. However, the new strategy only pertains to tax frauds exceeding $2 million. To qualify for a reward, the whistleblower must complete I.R.S. Form 211 and provide comprehensive information. The documents and information can also be submitted by the applicant’s attorney. Federal and state governments each have their own tax systems in the United States, and taxes come in a variety of forms, including property taxes, income taxes, sales taxes, and capital gains taxes, among others.
