The British North America Act of 1867 united the four distinct provinces of Upper Canada, Lower Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick into a single Dominion within the British Empire called Canada on July 1, 1867.
During both World Wars, Canadian and British forces fought together. At the conclusion of World War II, Canada was left in a position of relative strength, and its standard of living increased. In 1949, Canada’s tenth province, Newfoundland, entered the Confederation.
