Food, shelter, and clothing are the fundamental requirements of every person on Earth. However, quality footwear is a necessity that millions of people around the world struggle to obtain.
National Shoe The World Day is annually observed on March 15. The day highlights the significance of footwear and the need for quality footwear for millions of people around the globe who cannot afford it or lack access to it. Did you know that nearly one billion individuals on Earth lack shoes or have inadequate footwear? Despite harsh terrains and climates, these individuals wander barefoot or in footwear of inferior quality. The good news is that we can all make a difference by donating, sponsoring, or gifting shoes to those in need.
Food, shelter, and clothing are the fundamental requirements of every person on Earth. However, quality footwear is a necessity that millions of people around the world struggle to obtain. Many people do not have access to footwear, which forces them to walk barefoot on hot, hard surfaces or in slick, muddy environments.
Walking without protection or barefoot can result in a lifetime of pain, injury, wounds, sores, infections, parasites, etc. In addition to the health concerns, individuals can be banned from schools and other business locations for not wearing shoes, and National Shoe The World Day specifically addresses this issue. We may be fortunate to have multiple pairs of shoes in our wardrobes, but few are fortunate enough to have a pair of shoes that is much too large for them.
In March 2014, the United Indigenous People of Fontana, California, were inspired by Donald Zsemonadi to establish National Shoe The World Day. Since then, people from all over the world have participated in this event and aided to “shoe” those who are struggling with poor or no footwear. For some of us, shoes may not be a significant topic of conversation and celebration, but for some in underdeveloped communities, decent shoes remain a distant dream. Therefore, let’s raise awareness about the importance of quality footwear and assist those in need.
