This biblical name, pronounced /ti-muh-thee/ in English, is derived from the words “time,” which means “honor,” and “theos,” which means “god.” When combined, they signify “honored by god” or “honoring god.” Its original Latin form is Timotheus; its Old Greek form is Timotheos.
