National Tim Day 2023: Date, History and 5 Film Actors Named Tim

Timothy's mentor was the apostle Paul. He penned these books to aid Timothy in sharing the good news of Jesus.

National Tim Day 2023: Every year on December 28, we celebrate National Tim Day. The English name Timothy is the source of the name Tim, but it originated in Old Greek. This biblical name, pronounced /ti-muh-thee/ in English, is derived from the words “time,” which means “honor,” and “theos,” which means “god.” When combined, they signify “honored by god” or “honoring god.” Its original Latin form is Timotheus; its Old Greek form is Timotheos.

National Tim Day History

The more formal-sounding Timothy is also known by the nicknames Timmy, Timmie, Timbo, and Timo. Even though the name was popular in classical Greece, English speakers did not acquire it until the 16th century.

Though it was once more popular, it’s still a great option for infant boys today. From the 1920s through the 1960s, its popularity increased. There were 1,607 boys named Timothy in 1967, when the name was most popular, ranking it at number 11. Tim is a name that was originally used for girls but is now mostly used for boys. In 1970, there were 153 times more boys than girls with the same name. The popularity of the name has sharply decreased since then. Its ranking dropped to 165 in 2018 and its usage dropped to 0.121%, although it remained the most popular male name in its category. In 2020, one in 923 infant boys and 1,985 boys were given the name Timothy.

Do you think there are a lot of Tims in the world? There would be six people named Timothy in a group of 10,000 if naming preferences and the birth rate remained the same as in 2020. To put it another way, there is a 99.608% chance that a person with the name Timothy will encounter at least one other person with the same given name if they meet 10,000 people in their lifetime.
