One of the creators of “Sesame Street,” Jim Henson, was inspired to create Oscar the Grouch by a boorish waiter at a restaurant named Oscar’s Salt of the Sea. Oscar’s original design depicted a magenta monster with spiky, scowling features. However, due to technological limitations at the time, he redesigned Oscar with orange fur prior to his 1969 debut. Oscar turned green during the second season. In the programme, he claimed that he became mouldy and slimy after spending his vacation in Swamp Mushy Muddy, where the environment was extremely damp.
