In 2000, the date was altered to May 1 in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Some other nations have adopted May 2 as National Call in Sick Day. The date was changed to coincide with May Day, or International Workers’ Day. May’s proximity to summer is another justification for moving the commemoration to that month.
