Harold Camping, a radio presenter for the Family Radio Christian network, made a similar prediction in 2001. According to Camping, he had determined the date of both the Rapture and the Day of Judgement. In addition, he explained that he had meticulously calculated the dates and determined that May 11 would be the Day of the Rapture.
This was to be followed by five months of destruction and plagues before the Day of Judgement on October 11 eventually arrives. He also stated that daily, millions of people will perish, and sinners will be punished. Although the prediction may seem implausible, many believed what Camping said. To save their souls, many of his devotees sold their possessions and began to do good. A retired subway worker spent $140,000 of his retirement assets on billboards announcing the impending Rapture.
However, nothing occurred when the day arrived. There was no change to the world and no devastation. From that point forward, Camping and his forecasts became a punchline. On the other hand, the 21st of May became a popular celebration date where people danced the night away!
