This is a very important day in Romania because of the past of the areas that are now Romania

Romania National Day 2023: On December 1, Romania celebrates National Day, also known as the Great Union Day. This is a very important day in Romania because of the past of the areas that are now Romania. Every year, millions of Romanians around the world enjoy the event that made the great union official.

Romania National Day: History

As well as being the country’s Independence Day, Romania National Day celebrates the coming together of Transylvania, Bessarabia, and Bukovina into one country, Romania, from their different histories.

It has been moved a few times in the past. First, it was May 10, which was the day that King Carol I signed the Declaration of Independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1877. Then, starting in 1948, it was August 23, which was the day that the pro-Nazi government was overthrown in 1944. On the other hand, December 1 has been Romania’s freedom day since 1990.

People from other countries call Romania’s National Day “the Great Union.” The annual military show on that day, which usually has a lot of people watching, is fun for both Romanians and people from other countries.

Records show that the papers approving the merging of the regions were signed in Alba Iulia. In 1918, the declaration was read out loud to a big group of Romanians.

The 12th biggest country in Europe is Romania, and it has the sixth most people of any EU member state. In 2018, when Romania marked the 100th anniversary of Great Union Day, 4,807 people came together to make a silhouette of the country in Alba Iulia. This was the largest human image of a country ever.
