Scout Sunday 2024: Date, History and Facts About Scouting

Scout Sunday, observed annually on February 4, honors the British Boy Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, fostering moral values and survival skills among schoolchildren.

Scout Sunday 2024: Every year on the Sunday before February 8, Scout Sunday is observed; this year, it falls on February 4. The Boy Scouts of America have been imparting moral values, survival skills, and good actions to schoolchildren since 1910. The British Boy Scouts, who were founded in 1908 in response to the popularity of Robert Baden-Scouting Powell’s for Boys, are the ancestors of the Boy Scouts of America. With more than 17 million members, Gerakan Pramuka Indonesia, the national scouting organization of Indonesia, is the largest scouting organization in the world.

Scout Sunday History

Following the South African War, Lord Bowden-Powell established scouts. 22 boys, some from working-class homes and some from public schools were rounded up by Baden-Powell in 1907 and put in a camp under his supervision. The world now knows what happened at that camp.

In 1908, the book “Scouting for Boys” cost 4d per copy and was published in six fortnightly sections. The book did well on the market. The boys started Scout Patrols to try out new concepts. An intended training document for already-existing groups turned become the manual for a brand-new international movement. Powell struck a nerve with his profound understanding of boys. The work has therefore been translated into other languages and dialects.

He was presented with a brand-new Rolls-Royce car in 1929, during the third World Scout Jamboree. This car was instantly given the nickname Jam-Roll. Additionally, he obtained an Eccles Caravan, which he named Eccles Cake. As a result, Scouts who attended the event were given a jam-roll pulled by an Eccles Cake. The Baden-Powells found this combination ideal for their later travels across Europe. Additionally, Baden-Powell had a big impact on youth education. He led the Scouting movement with diligence, and it spread over the world. There were more than a million Scouts in 32 countries by 1922; by 1939, there were more than 3.3 million.
