Skywarn™ Recognition Day 2023: On December 2, 2018, which is Skywarn™ Recognition Day, the first Saturday in December, people who work as amateur radio operators around the clock to report dangerous weather patterns like tornadoes, storms, and strong winds are recognized for their hard work. These kinds of weather could do a lot of damage to people’s lives and property.
A warning from an SKYWARN worker ahead of time helps keep people from getting hurt. The workers are from all sorts of places and walks of life. Their job is to report the weather correctly, and the National Weather Service (NWS) trains them to do so. If the weather outside affects your plans for the day, listen to the radio to learn more about the weather trends that SKYWARN volunteers are reporting.
A Brief History of Skywarn™ Recognition Day
In 1999, the first Skywarn™ Recognition Day Recognition Day took place. The N.W.S. and the American Radio Relay League (A.R.R.L.) made it. The day will be celebrated on the first Saturday of every December, as agreed upon by the two groups. NWS is a government body in the United States whose job it is to report on normal and unusual weather. In case the weather is going to get worse, they send out warnings and alerts. The National Weather Service, whose main office is in Maryland, Washington, thinks it’s their job to keep people safe from bad weather. There are more than 120 offices across the country that give the government information.
A.R.R.L., or the American Radio Relay League, is another group that helps NWS get and share accurate weather conditions. It is the biggest non-profit group for amateur radio fans and was founded in 1914. Both of the founders, Hiram Maxim and Clarence Tuska, worked for the radio firm. Because they were interested in the field, they worked together to make A.R.R.L. so that people who weren’t from the field but still wanted to help could do so.
Members of the group get technical training, education, scholarships, and help, and many of them have gone on to work as SKYWARNTM reporters for the NWS. Membership in the A.R.R.L. isn’t just for people from the United States; more than 7,000 of its 161,000 members are from other countries. The group puts out a special journal called “QST” and holds a number of meetings. About 290,000 people mention any strange weather every year. These kinds of reports have helped lessen the damage and save people and businesses money as well.

For rainy days, a pinecone
If you’re not sure if it’s going to rain or not, look at the scales on a pinecone. If it’s going to rain, the scales will probably close up.
Forecasts for the next few days are more accurate.
Because the weather can change quickly, a daily forecast is more likely to be correct than one that tells you what the weather will be like for the next few months.
That which is false is known as a “bust.”
When a weather forecaster’s report is wrong, it’s called a “bust” in the business.
Models aren’t right.
Computer formulas used to make weather models are only guesses at what might happen, so they can be wrong.
The bad effects of the media
There is a race to get the most clicks or ratings on TV, which has led many weather agencies to “wrongly” expect bad weather because people are more interested in “bigger” and “badder” weather.
