Salvation is the purpose of human existence. Following the path set out by Jesus himself, the path to God, leads to salvation. That is the essence of Christianity: the path one must follow to attain God's abode in the afterlife.
On August 24, we celebrate St. Bartholomew’s Day. St. Bartholomew, one of the earliest apostles of Jesus Christ, is honoured annually on this day for his life and exploits. He devoted his life to promoting Jesus’ teachings. The patron saint of tanners, tailors, plasterers, and leatherworkers is Saint Bartholomew. Due to the manner of his demise, he is also associated with bookbinders, farmers, house painters, butchers, and glove makers. He is also the patron saint of Armenia because of his endeavours to spread Christianity there.
Salvation is the purpose of human existence. Following the path set out by Jesus himself, the path to God, leads to salvation. That is the essence of Christianity: the path one must follow to attain God’s abode in the afterlife. Saint Bartholomew comprehended this mission. He was among the first disciples of Jesus. In addition, he was one of Jesus Christ’s first 12 apostles. He was introduced to the teachings of Jesus Christ by Saint Philip. Numerous miracles involving the weight of objects are affiliated with him.
St. Bartholomew’s comprehensive history is unknown to us. Nevertheless, historians and theologians believe he was from Galilee. In addition, they believe Bartholomew was a Jewish law scholar who was close with another apostle, Philip. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and the Book of Acts list him as one of the first apostles. However, the name ‘Bartholomew’ is absent from the Gospel of John. Many believe that ‘Nathanael,’ mentioned in John’s Gospel, is actually ‘Bartholomew,’ which is the saint’s given name.
Many believed that after being selected by Jesus Christ as an apostle, he travelled to Armenia to promote Christianity. There are alternative assertions that he travelled to India in 55 A.D. According to the majority of sources, he was murdered for converting Polymius, monarch of Armenia, to Christianity. St. Bartholomew’s Church is one of the most historically significant and significant structures in Blacktown, Australia. St. Bartholomew’s Church and the Anglican Cemetery were constructed in 1841. He was flayed and beheaded before being interred in Germany.
