In 2021, the Food Industry Association (F.M.I.) established the first National Supermarket Employee Day to recognise supermarket workers who merit national recognition.
The Food Industry Association’s Supermarket Employee Day returns on February 22 after a successful inaugural year and continued valiant efforts by grocery store employees and other personnel. The initiative, which first took place in 2021 to recognise the contributions of grocery industry employees, will continue for a second consecutive year and become an annual event.
In 2021, the Food Industry Association (F.M.I.) established the first National Supermarket Employee Day to recognise supermarket workers who merit national recognition. The first commemoration attracted nearly all levels and types of F.M.I. members from around the world. Eleven states have since made proclamations. The media coverage also included local and national reports on events throughout the nation. The F.M.I. emphasised that the return of Supermarket Employee Day was a result of the positive response it received when it was first introduced in 2021, with wholesalers, retailers, state association partners, and suppliers participating.
The FMI has created an online repository of comprehensive resources and tools so that members can celebrate Supermarket Employee Day in accordance with their budgets and brands. Among the available tools are messages, logos, assertions, celebration ideas, infographics, stickers, badges, banners, press releases, and strategies for fostering talent among teams.
In 2021, the holiday was commemorated with state and municipal proclamations, programmes inviting customers to nominate store heroes, award sweepstakes, video tributes, headquarters parties, supply chain gratitude efforts, social media promotion, and in-store celebrations.
Supermarkets are the backbone of a community. According to the F.M.I., 83% of supermarket employees positively impact their hometowns by participating in community outreach and establishing local connections through educational, charitable, public-health, and awareness campaigns, in addition to stocking shelves with food. In 2020, food retailers provided more than 1.5 billion meals to Americans in need through the Feeding America initiative.
Celebrate this holiday by expressing gratitude to the employees at your preferred grocery store. Participate in the festivities at local establishments.
Supermarket Employee Day is gaining recognition, and you can contribute to this development. Encourage your local and state representatives to declare the holiday.
Participate in social media celebration campaigns. Share photos and use hashtags to make the employees of a supermarket feel special.
