Tu B’Av is observed annually on the fifteenth day of Av. Av is the eleventh month of the civil year and the fifth month of the ecclesiastical year according to the Hebrew calendar. Almost 19 centuries ago, the only observance of Tu B’Av was that the ‘Tachanun’ was not recited during prayers and that newlyweds did not fast if their wedding fell on that day. In recent decades, it has become a romantic Jewish holiday and has been described as a “great day for weddings, commitment ceremonies, renewal of vows, and proposing.” It is also “a day for romance, which is explored through singing, dancing, giving flowers, and studying.”
