We Jump The World Day is annually observed on April 29. This holiday is dedicated to the impact of parkour, also known as free-running, on its practitioners. We Jump The World Day was first observed in 2016 by Team Farang, a parkour-inspired apparel brand. Here’s what the brand had to say: “We Jump the World Day is all about doing Parkour with your crew or on your own. At the same time and throughout the globe!” The holiday places a strong emphasis on belongingness within the international parkour community.

The background of We Jump The World Day

Parkour originated on the fringes of Paris, France, in the 1990s. David Belle initially devised freerunning based on the ‘art of movement’ he learned from his father, a firefighter. Throughout the city, during his adolescent years, Belle and his friends practised parkour by jumping and climbing over stairs, barriers, and walls. Belle’s movement art involved repurposing structures for purposes other than their original intent. Parkour was subsequently popularised by films such as “B13,” which starred Belle. Global sporting events aided the art form reach even more individuals.

The training discipline has its origins in military obstacle courses and consists of running, climbing, swaying, rolling, plyometrics, and other activities. The objective of the sport is to travel from point A to point B with the least amount of obstructions feasible. Despite the fact that parkour can be a solo or group activity, a sense of community has developed among its practitioners.
