On April 4, we celebrate World Rat Day. It is a day to dispel the negative energy rats experience. Rats are extraordinary creatures with extraordinary abilities and qualities. Since the bubonic plague, rodents have had a poor reputation, and most people dislike them for stealing food and spreading disease. Those who keep rodents as pets, however, recognise that they are intelligent and entertaining companions. They require care, attention, and affection just like any other living creature. In 2002, a group of animal lovers established World Rat Day in an effort to promote acceptance of these magnificent creatures and to enable them to coexist with humans.

Rats are medium-sized, long-tailed rodents of the species Rodentia and genus Rattus. Their long tail is a distinguishing feature, and rodents use it for thermal regulation. Rats are parasites in the majority of the world, but they are not native to every region. During the Middle Ages, ships introduced the majority of these species to Europe. In particular, black rats are notoriously successful as invasive species. Nevertheless, different cultures view rodents differently. In European cultures, rats are viewed negatively, whereas they are viewed favourably in Asian cultures. Rats are included in the Chinese zodiac, and Hindu mythology identifies them as the vehicle of the god Ganesh.
Rats are clever and intelligent creatures. The prevalence of domestic rodents continues to rise. In captivity, rats became amicable over generations. They are inquisitive creatures with the potential to be excellent companions for their human companions. Rats as pets pose no threat to humans and do not transport any more diseases than dogs and cats. They are low maintenance because of their small stature and adaptable eating habits.
