2011 Mumbai Bombings: Thirteen years ago, on November 26, 2008, ten Pakistan-based terrorists launched coordinated shooting and bombing assaults in Mumbai at five main locations, killing 166 people and wounding over 300.

Terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba targeted five significant locations in Mumbai: the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus train station, the Nariman House commercial and residential complex, Cama Hospital, the Leopold Cafe, the Oberoi-Trident Hotel, and the Taj Hotel and Tower.

The terrorists arrived in Mumbai on a hijacked fishing vessel from Karachi, Pakistan.

While the military forces killed nine terrorists during the four-day operation, the lone terrorist, Ajmal Kasab, was apprehended alive and condemned to death in 2012 at Yerwada Central Jail in Pune.

Terrorists hijacked cars, including a police van, and carried out the attacks in separate groups. They stormed the sites with automatic guns and grenades.

The first attack occurred at the Chhatrapati Shivaji terminal. Around 9.20 p.m. The attack lasted approximately 90 minutes, killing 58 individuals and injuring over 100 others.

The second incident occurred around 8-10 minutes later at the Nariman House commercial and residential complex, which houses the Jewish Chabad Lubavitch outreach facility.

The terrorists blew up a petrol station before attacking it. Four terrorists attacked the upmarket and popular Leopold Cafe about 9.40 p.m. They fired on the diners, killing ten of them. The assault lasted 10 to 15 minutes. Terrorists also detonated bombs in two cabs, killing five people and injuring 15.

After that, they go to the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel. They attacked guests near the pool initially, then moved inside to the pubs and restaurants. Two of the terrorists came in via the front door and began firing and tossing grenades. During the four-day siege, they killed at least 31 individuals.

Terrorists detonated bombs beneath the Taj Mahal hotel’s central dome, igniting a large inferno that burned through the Taj’s top floors.

Two terrorists entered the Oberoi-Trident Hotel through the restaurant and opened fire on the gathering. During a three-day siege, they killed around 30 individuals.

Kasab and his fellow terrorist Ismail Khan attacked the Cama Hospital after bombing the CST railway station. They arrived at the hospital’s back gate, but the attentive hospital staff had closed all the doors. After that, the two men ambushed a police unit outside the hospital, murdering six of them, including ATS commander Hemant Karkare, and hijacking their jeep.

Kasab and Ismail Khan, the other terrorist, were apprehended at Girgaum Chowpatty, when police officer Tukaram Omble grasped the barrel of their firearm. This allowed the police squad to overpower Kasab and apprehend him. The other terrorist was assassinated.

Kasab was sentenced to death and hanged on November 21, 2012. He was buried at Yerwada Jail in Pune.
