History of the Academy Awards

The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, are a ceremony held annually to recognise outstanding achievements in the film industry. 1929 marked the first ceremony, which was attended by 270 individuals. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which was founded in 1927 to promote the art and science of filmmaking, presents the awards.

The Academy Awards have become one of the most prestigious awards in the entertainment industry over the years. The ceremony is broadcast live around the world, and both critics and fans scrutinise the nominees and winners. New categories have been added to recognise technical and creative achievements in filmmaking as the award categories have evolved over time.
