International Youth Day 2023: International Youth Day is celebrated every year on August 12. The United Nations (UN) established World Youth Day in 1999 to raise awareness. Also to recognize the contribution of young people to society. The event also aims to generate discussions and initiatives. That address the challenges facing young people in different parts of the world.

On World Youth Day, various events, conferences and activities are organized around the world to engage young people. Discuss important global issues and promote youth-led initiatives. Social media today also plays an important role in spreading awareness and promoting conversation.

History of International Youth Day

Beginning in 1965, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) began a concerted effort to influence the younger generation. They adopted a declaration on promoting the ideals of peace, mutual respect and understanding between nations among young people. They began devoting time and resources to empowering youth by identifying emerging leaders and empowering them to respond to global needs. On December 17, 1999, the UN General Assembly adopted the recommendation of the World Conference of Ministers on Youth and established World Youth Day. The day was celebrated for the first time on August 12, 2000.

Theme

This year, the theme of International Youth Day 2023 is “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World”. Green skills are “the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resourceful society”, mentions the UN. World Youth Days highlight the global struggles of young people. This effort also aims to recognize the role of youth as initiators of society, accelerators of economic progress, and initiators of sustainable development.
