Karwa Chauth 2022: It is a festival celebrated by Hindu female on the fourth day after Purnima (a full moon) in the month of Kartika. On this occasion, married women, especially in North India, observe fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. Women begin preparing for Karwa Chauth a few days in advance, by buying adornments (Sringar), jewellery, and puja items, such as the Karwa lamps, matthi, henna and the decorated puja thali (plate).

Karwa Chauth is a very grand festival celebrated by married Hindu female across the country. On this festival, married ladies observe a strict fast from strict fast from sunrise until moonrise. This fast is celebrated for the longevity and well-being of their husbands. According to the Drik Panchang, Karwa Chauth is observed on Chaturthi Tithi which is the fourth day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik. This year, Karwa Chauth will be celebrated on Thursday, 13th October 2022.

Importance of Karwa Chauth

Karwa Chauth festival is celebrated with great fervour and zeal all over the country. Grand celebrations are being organized at this festival. All Hindu and Indian women observe this strict nirjala fast for their husband’s long life and they do not eat anything for the whole day. The Karwa Chauth Fasting is very special as nowhere in the world a woman a woman goes without eating or drinking throughout the day to pray for the longevity of her husband.

Significance of Karwa Chauth

Married women worship Chauth Mata and offer prayers to Goddess for the well-being of their husbands and seek blessings for Chauth Mata. Karwa refers to the earthen pot through which the water is offered to the Moon. The water offering to the Moon is known as Argha. All married women break their fast solely after offering Arghya to moon. The culture of applying Mehendi or henna is a main and necessary part of Karwa Chauth. In the Hindu culture, Mehendi is symbolic of good fortune for married women. Women apply Mehendi on their hands and toes on this special day of Karwa Chauth.

Sargi is considered to be the main phase of Karwa Chauth Day. Sargi is a special meal prepared which is eaten before daybreak It usually consists of seviyan or vermicelli, paranthas, fruits and all. Sargi tradition is not followed via all as this is in general followed via Punjabi community people. Women prepare delicious food on this day despite watching fast and the food is first offered to Chauth Mata.
