Lalitpur Airport update: The Uttar Pradesh government has granted its final approval for the establishment of an airport in Lalitpur. In light of the establishment of the Bulk Drug Park in Lalitpur and the Defence Corridor in Bundelkhand, the massive aviation project was approved.

Where is Lalitpur situated?

Lalitpur, one of Uttar Pradesh’s districts, is part of the Jhansi Division. It functions as the administrative centre of the municipality. Historically, Lalitpur district was a part of Chanderi, a state founded in the 17th century by a Bundela Rajput descended from Rudra Pratap of Orchha. Chanderi and most of Bundelkhand fell under Maratha hegemony in the 18th century.

According to the 2011 census, the area of the Lalitpur district is 5039 square kilometres. It has a population of 1,221,592 individuals.

Initially, the airport will accommodate to smaller aircraft, but it will eventually be expanded into an international airport with international standards.

Construction cost

The total cost of the 91.77 hectares of land necessary for the airport project is Rs 7,786 crore, with the initial phase costing approximately Rs 86 crore. Additionally, approximately 12,79 hectares of land are being taken from the Ministry of Defence. Later, land would be allocated to the ministry by the Gram Samaj or Gram Panchayat.

The nearest domestic airport to Lalitpur is the Gwalior Airport, which is nearly a four-hour journey from the city. It is well connected to cities such as Delhi and Mumbai via Air India. Bhopal’s Raj Bhoj International Airport is approximately five hours’ journey from Lalitpur. It is well connected to cities such as Ahmedabad, Chennai, Chandigarh, Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Kolkata, Mumbai and Raipur via IndiGo, Go Air, Air India and Spice Jet, among others.

Climate

The district’s climate is subtropical, typical of Central India, with dry, hot summers and chilly winters. equivalent to other districts in the Bundelkhand region, it experiences four distinct seasons: summer from March to mid-June, monsoon from mid-June to September, post-monsoon transition between October and November and winter from December to February.

Topography

Lalitpur district is generally a rocky region, with the highest ground located in the extreme south,With remnants of the Vindhyan plateau extending from the betwa in a south-easterly direction and gradually fragmenting into a confined mass of hills, portions of which approach 650 m above mean sea level, the Vindhyan plateau lies to the southeast of the betwa.
The north of the scrap, a plain of undulating black soil interrupted by scattered hills and scoured by numerous drainage channels, extends beyond the city of Lalitpur and gradually becomes more rocky. With long ridges extending from south- west to north- west, low red hills of granitoid rock then appear.

The majority of the district is drained by the river Jamni and its tributaries, which separate it from the district of tikamgarh on its eastern border. River Betwa forms the western and northern boundary and empties the western portion of the district, while Dhasan River partially drains the district’s south-eastern portion and an incline is situated to the north.
