National Safe Motherhood Day 2022: Theme, objective, facts

The theme for this year’s National Safe Motherhood Day is to remain at home amid coronavirus and protect mother and infant safe from coronavirus.

National Safe Motherhood Day is marked every year on April 11. The objective of this day is to raise awareness about the significance of pregnant women having sufficient access to medical care during their pregnancy, childbirth, and later services. The White Ribbon Alliance India (WRAI) started the campaign.

India used to be regarded as one of the most dangerous countries in the world to give birth in as it was responsible for 15 percent of all maternal deaths worldwide. Poor prenatal care in India resulted in the deaths of 44,000 women. The Indian government acted on WRAI’s recommendation and declared April 11 as National Safe Motherhood Day, with the intention of taking urgent action.
