PM GatiShakti Planning Group: At its 66th meeting on February 27, the Network Planning Group (NPG), operating under the PM GatiShakti Mission, assessed two projects from the Ministry of Railways (MoR) and three projects from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The initial undertaking of the highways ministry concerns the improvement of Andhra Pradesh’s National Highway 216H. This 120.85-kilometer-long brownfield project will link Pedana and Laxmipuram. The primary aim is to improve connectivity, with a specific focus on the Machilipatnam port, Gudiviada, and Machilipatnam railway stations. By expediting intercity travel and reducing travel time and expenses, the initiative intends to stimulate economic development in underdeveloped areas and improve connectivity throughout the state.

The second initiative pertains to the construction of a bypass around the metropolis of Indore. Over 141 kilometers, it connects Dhar, Indore, and Dewas in Madhya Pradesh. By providing an alternate pathway between Khandwa village and NH-52 near Bhardala, the corridor aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Indore and guarantee uninterrupted movement of people and goods.
The approximate 64-kilometer-long third undertaking is a ring road encircling the city of Guwahati. The proposal includes a new bridge across the Brahmaputra and an elevated structure at Jorabat. By decongesting the city of Guwahati and major intersections within the Kamrup metropolitan district, this endeavor will reduce travel times and vehicle operating expenses, thereby enhancing connectivity and providing a remedy for congestion. The initiative is expected to provide efficient traffic flow, which will foster economic growth.
The line will connect Basawani, Khargone, Dhar, and Indore in Madhya Pradesh with Nashik and Dhule in Maharashtra. In Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, the upcoming rail link between Mumbai and Indore will improve connectivity and promote socio-economic development.
In Uttar Pradesh, the second initiative involves the duplication of 72.27 kilometers through Allahabad, Pratapgarh, and Rai Bareli. The primary objectives of the Phaphamau-Unchahar brownfield project are to increase operational efficiency, decrease travel time, and improve connectivity.
