Let’s start with the fact that 31 million Americans already reside inside the totality’s path. These maps weigh travel distance from across the country to summarise the prospective visits from nearby states.

Near Torreon, Mexico, there will be a 4 minute, 27 second duration record.

A total eclipse of the Sun occurs when the shadow completely surrounds the inner black circle, or umbra. The penumbra, or outside shadow circle, denotes the extent of the partial eclipse. The eclipse will be deep along the path of totality and mild near the outer circle. The sky will darken and the sun will appear eerie during a deep partial eclipse. Get inside the totality’s path if you can! 99% and 100% are not the same. Only when you are 100% eclipsed and within the path of totality will you be able to glimpse the corona.
