Touch tag dates back to ancient Rome and has been played for centuries under various names and regulations. It consists of players running around and attempting to tag or contact other players.
American Touch Tag Day is on October 8, and we are all set to celebrate the classic childhood game and encourage children and adults of all ages to go outside and play. The primary purpose of this day is to commemorate this simple game that has endured the test of time and is adored by people of all ages and backgrounds. The best method to celebrate is by running around in the fresh air and tagging someone.
Touch tag dates back to ancient Rome and has been played for centuries under various names and regulations. It consists of players running around and attempting to “tag” or contact other players. Most variations of the game do not involve teams, scores, or apparatus, so it is inherently simple. Nonetheless, it could be made more complicated by modifying the rules.
A group of players determines who will be “it” to play the game, frequently using a counting-out game. The player designated as “it” at that point pursues the others, attempting to identify them by touching them with a hand as the others attempt to escape. A tag makes the tagged player “it,” and in some variations, the previous “it” is no longer “it” and the game can continue inconclusively, whereas in others, the two players remain “it” and the game ends when all players have become “it.”
Some schools have been known to prohibit tag and other chasing activities due to safety concerns, as injuries could result from running into someone or something, falling, etc. However, when played with the necessary care, it can be an exquisite pleasure.
Among the variations and adaptations of tag are the Animal Tag Game for children, Cops and Robbers, Freeze Tag, Shadow Tag, and Lightsaber Tag.
