On May 6, 2006, Mr. Beer Pong (Jack Brosseit) and Mrs. Beer Pong (Mary Brosseit) and their eldest daughter first organised the day at The University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. It was a commencement party for their youngest child, Miss Beer Pong.

Beer Pong Day has been celebrated annually on the first Saturday of May since May 6, 2006, and this year it occurs on May 6. This is how a basic event to play the game evolved into a day to celebrate the game itself.

The background of Beer Pong Day

While Beer Pong Day is relatively recent, the game itself dates back centuries. Beer pong was not created by invention, but by natural selection. And this evolution necessitated the occurrence of significant events. Beer pong did not originate in a college, contrary to popular belief; rather, it evolved from a game called Beirut (yep, named after the capital of Lebanon). Beirut consisted of hitting a ping-pong ball into receptacles with a paddle.

During the 1960s and 1970s, Boston, Massachusetts, is attributed with adapting Beirut into beer pong by removing the paddle and aiming the ball at a beer cup. Thus, contemporary beer pong was created.
