Chandra Darshan History

Chandra Dev, according to Hindu mythology, is one of the most revered deities. He is also an important component of the ‘Navgraha’ planets, which have a profound effect on life on Earth. In general, the Moon is regarded as an auspicious planet. It is linked to intelligence, purity, and virtuous intentions. It is believed that an individual with a favourable Moon placement on his or her natal planet will enjoy greater success and prosperity.

In Hinduism, the Moon has greater significance due to the lunar calendar. In Hindu mythology, Chandra Dev, or the Moon God, is responsible for the welfare of animals and plants. He is the father of Lord Budha and is married to the 27 Nakshatras, who are the daughters of King Prajapati Daksha. On the day of Chandra Darshan, Hindu devotees pray to the Moon God for his blessings on success and good fortune.

Chandra Darshan occurs on the first day following a new moon when the moon rises. Amavasya refers to a day with no moon. The first sighting of the moon after the beginning of a new moon cycle is religiously significant. On the auspicious day of Chandra Darshan, devotees typically observe a full-day fast and break it after viewing the new moon.

The veneration of the ancestors, or Pitra in Sanskrit, is one of the most significant aspects of this day. Numerous people venerate their ancestors in order to attain Moksha (completing the circle of life and death) and to obtain their wishes and blessings for a prosperous future.
