Egypt: Al-Mouled Al-Nabawy 2023: Date, History, Facts about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

During the Fatimid dynasty (10th to 12th centuries), ruling families hosted lavish banquets for the impoverished and needy and distributed large quantities of Halawet El-Mouled candies, which were typically made from a variety of nuts and honey.

Al-Mouled Al-Nabawy, also known as Moulid El Nabi, occurs on September 27 this year, on the 12th day of Rabi’i al-Awal, the third month of the Islamic calendar. It is a national holiday in Egypt, commemorating the birth of the Prophet (P.B.U.H.). Al-Mouled Al-Nabawy is based on lunar observations; therefore, the date may vary from previous predictions. In order to declare Muslim holidays, a clear sky and other conditions must be met, making it impossible to pinpoint the exact date and time.

The background of Egypt: Al-Mouled Al-Nabawy

During the Fatimid dynasty (10th to 12th centuries), ruling families hosted lavish banquets for the impoverished and needy and distributed large quantities of Halawet El-Mouled candies, which were typically made from a variety of nuts and honey. As the holiday approaches, retailers begin selling these confections.

Arouset el-Moulid dolls, which are shaped like brides and appear in a variety of designs, are also sold to encourage young couples to marry during the celebration. The sixth Fatimid caliph, Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah, explored the town with one of his wives in honor of Al-Mouled Al-Nabawy, according to one legend about the doll’s origin. A confectioner, captivated by her attractiveness, crafted a dessert in the form of a bride.

Sufi groups recite in the streets near the Al-Hussein Mosque, believed to be the final resting place of the Prophet Muhammad’s (P.B.U.H.) grandson, in honor of the religious significance of the holiday. This annual religious ceremony takes place at Egypt’s Al Azhar University. It is attended by the Egyptian president and the Grand Imam, both of whom are invited by the Egyptian Ministry of Endowments.

5 FACTS ABOUT THE PROPHET MOHAMMED (PBUH)

The Jewish community of Medina held Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) in high regard and viewed him as someone whose word they could rely on, hence his appellation ‘The Trustworthy.’

Before the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), his father Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib passed away.

Since dining with others is considered Sunnah, Muhammad (PBUH) never dined alone and always invited others to join him, urging others to do the same.

Muslims believe that he descends directly from the Prophet Ismail (A.S.).

His public proclamation of Islam began in 613 A.D., three years after the angel Jibreel revealed the first verses of the Quran.
