On the day of Krishnapingla Sankashti Chaturthi, a moon sighting is of particular importance. Early in the morning, devotees rise and prepare for a day of worshipping Lord Ganesha. Many devotees observe the Vrat of Krishnapingla Sankashti Chaturthi, during which they are permitted to consume fruits and milk products. Lord Ganesha’s statue is adorned with durva grass and fresh blossoms. Lord Ganesha’s Vedic mantras are chanted as a lamp is lighted. Sankashti puja is performed in the evening to honour the moon or Chandra God.

Also, on this day, special Naivedya or Bhog is prepared, which includes Lord Ganesha’s favourite dish, Modak (a coconut- and jaggery-based treat). The Ganesha Aarti is then performed, followed by the distribution of prasad to all devotees.
