Mohini Ekadashi 2023: Mohini Ekadashi is of great significance in Hinduism. On this auspicious day of Mohini Ekadashi, many Hindu devotees offer petitions to Lord Vishnu. This year, the fast will be observed on May 1, 2023. Mohini Ekadashi occurs on the Ekadashi Tithi (eleventh day) of Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakha.

Mohini Ekadashi 2023: History

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Dhanvantri appeared alongside the Amrit Kalash at the time of the ocean’s churning (Samudra Manthan), when the elixir was expelled. Due to this, Demons and Deities fought over who would consume the Amrit. To end the conflict, the Lord of the Deities went to Lord Vishnu for assistance. Lord Vishnu then appeared in the form of the nymph Mohini and took the Amrit Kalash from the Demons and returned it to the Deities to ensure their immortality. People commemorate this day as Mohini Ekadashi and offer prayers to Vishnu for this reason.

Mohini Ekadashi Significance

According to religious beliefs, Lord Vishnu blesses devotees who observe the Ekadashi fast with happiness and prosperity. For devotees of Lord Vishnu, the observance of the Ekadashi fast is considered extremely auspicious. People who observe the Ekadashi fast can atone for their transgressions and attain moksha. There are various methods to observe the Ekadashi fast. Some people observe the Nirjala Ekadashi fast and abstain from consuming or drinking from sunrise on Ekadashi until Prana time the next day.

People observe Ekadashi Vrat to placate God and seek penance. Ekadashi Parana (breaking the fast) is performed on the following day of the Ekadashi fast after sunrise. Parana must be performed during Dwadashi Tithi unless Dwadashi ends before sunrise.

• Awaken early in the morning and shower.
• On a wooden plank, position a statue of Lord Vishnu and the Shri Yantra.
• Light a diya, apply chandan tilak, adorn the idol with a floral garland and Tusli Patra, and eat a Tusli Patra.
• Offer Panch Phal, Panchamrit, and homemade confections.
• Devotees recite the Vishnu Sahastranaam and the Shri Hari Stotram.
• Visit the Lord Krishna and Vishnu temples.
