Rama Ekadashi is observed in the Tamil calendar’s “Puratassi” month, even though the Hindu lunar calendar places it in the month of Kartik. Apart from Andhra Pradesh, it also happens in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and the Ashwayuj or Ashwin months.

Papankusha Ekadashi 2023: Dates, Rituals, Significance, Legend, and Wishes

Rama Ekadashi Rituals

The Rama Ekadashi day custom of fasting is significant. A day before the actual ekadashi, on “dashami,” this ceremony begins. The’saatvik’ supper is only eaten once, right before dusk, on this day as well for believers. They do not eat at all on ekadashi. On the ‘dwadashi’ tithi, the fasting practise known as ‘Parana’ comes to a conclusion. Consuming rice and other grains on any ekadashi is completely forbidden, even for those who are not fasting.

Devotees up early on the day of Rama Ekadashi and take a holy bath in any water body. On this day, Lord Vishnu is fervently worshipped. To Lord Vishnu, offer fruits, flowers, incense sticks, and dhoop. The special “Bhog” is prepared by devotees and presented to their deity. The ‘Prasad’ is then given out to the family members after a ‘aarti’ is done.

Another name for the goddess Lakshmi is “Rama.” Devotees pray to Devi Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu on this auspicious day in order to obtain the benefits of abundance, good health, and happiness.

All through the night, the Rama Ekadashi fast observer keeps watch. They participate in the kirtans or bhajans held on this day. On this day, reading the Bhagavad Gita is thought to be lucky.

Signficance

According to the sacred Rama Ekadashi fast, one will be released from all of his or her sons, even those who are equivalent to killing a Brahmin, according to Hindu religious texts like the “Brahma-Vaivarta Purana.” The greatest abode of Sri Hari Vishnu shall be reached by everybody who hears the praises of Rama Ekadashi. The benefits of honouring Rama Ekadashi are likewise thought to outweigh those of doing 100 Rajasuya Yagyas or 1000 Ashvamedha Yagyas. On the day of Rama Ekadashi, a person who worships God Vishnu with dedication has a greater chance of succeeding in life and overcoming all challenges.

According to Hindu doctrine and sacred texts like the Brahma Vaivarta Purana, those who observe the Rama Ekadashi fast are purified of all their previous transgressions. The worshippers who hear about Lord Vishnu’s splendour now get redemption.

The benefits of keeping this vrat are far more than those of doing the several Ashwamedha Yagnas and Rajasuya Yagna. Those who observe this fast with devotion are able to achieve great success in all aspects of their lives.

Legend

A King by the name of Muchukunda was fortunate to have a daughter named Chandrabhaga. Shobana, the son of King Chandrasen, was her husband. King Muchukunda, a fervent follower of Lord Vishnu, gave severe orders for everyone in his realm to observe the Rama Ekadashi fast. Since she was a young girl, Chandrabhaga used to observe a Rama Ekadashi fast.

When Rama Ekadashi fast day came around, her spouse Prince Shobana was also there in King Muchukunda’s kingdom during Krishna Paksha. He was therefore compelled to fast for the day as well. Due to his frail and fragile health, Shobana was unable to maintain a fast. Chandrabhaga instructed her husband to leave the area immediately because he would be required to carry out the ceremony if he remained. Shobana, however, declared that no matter what, he would only remain there and observe a Rama Ekadashi fast.

Shobana passed away at midnight because he was weak from hunger and thirst. However, the prince was able to join the celestial world and obtain a remarkable and magnificent kingdom as a result of the merits attained by keeping the Rama Ekadashi fast. However, the kingdom was invisible as a result of his compelled fast. A Brahmin from the Muchukunda Kingdom once went outside and observed Shobana and his realm. The prince told the Brahmin about every occurrence and urged him to inform Chandrabhaga, his wife, everything. The Brahmin went back and told the wife of the prince everything. Chandrabhaga, with the help of her heavenly blessings, brought the kingdom into existence and they both held the Kingdom forever. They then began living a divine and wonderful life as a result of the benefits and merits earned by Chandrabhaga as a result of her observation of several Rama Ekadashi fasts.
